WEEK 1 RECAP

Alvin & the Chipmunks (1-0) – 131.70
Da Bad News Bears (0-1) – 112.16

Why Eric Won: Kyler (27.30), Juju (21.90), Chris Carson (21.60)
Why Tim Lost: Ingram (2.90), David Montgomery (7.90)

Did I draft Juju for the gifs? No comment. My team performed well enough with Kyler, Kamara, Carson, and Juju exceeding 20 points. There were some concerning things but it’s hard to complain about starting 1-0. Tim’s team didn’t do awful, just not enough to snag the W. RB looks like it is going to be a problem as expected but guess who isn’t dead? Aaron Rodgers. Tim’s Chiefs and Rodgers will pummel more than one team this year.

Flappin in the Brees (0-1) – 103.50
Go Wilfork Yourself (1-0) – 129.86

Why Dags Won: Josh Jacobs (33.90), Noah Fant (16.60)
Why Dave Lost: Brees (14.40), Kupp (6.00), Ekeler (9.20)

The 2018 champ takes down the 2019 champ in Week 1 of 2020. Josh Jacobs – wow. 139 yds and 3 TDs isn’t a bad way to start the year. Dags also caught some luck with Marlon Mack out for the year in Week 1, buoying JT to an immediate starting role. With the exception of CEH’s electrifying performance, Dave’s team underwhelmed across the board. There was nothing super alarming here except for maybe seeing Ekeler used as a power back with 1 target in the passing game. Dave should get Golladay back soon as well, which will undoubtedly help. (hopefully not in Week 2)

Football Sage! (1-0) – 136.74
The Philly Special (0-1) – 76.82

Why Dad Won: Thielen (28.00), Darius Slayton (25.20)
Why Matt Lost: Whole Team (76.82)

Dad’s team didn’t need to show up in this one but did anyway. Thielen benefited from game script of a 43-34 game and ended up with a nice 6/110/2 line. Slayton proved he was no fluke with a strong performance against one of the best defenses in the NFL. Of course the ageless Adrian Peterson immediately proves me wrong with a shockingly large role. I should have known that if Dad drafted him, he would inevitably be good. Matt’s team, much like the Eagles, flopped in Week 1. Not even sure what to say here, every guy on his team was under projection, and the guys he needs most looked awful (Mixon, Odell). The good news here is it can’t get much worse. Maybe Matt is just the unluckiest man alive and his team rebounds with the imminent return of Miles Sanders.

Illegal use of hands (0-1) – 136.40
FantasyFootballTeam (1-0) – 142.78

Why Justin Won: Russ (31.78), Dalvin (21.30), Melvin “the closer” Gordon (14.10)
Why Brian Lost: Gronk (2.10), Derrick Henry (14.60)

I stayed up til 1:30 in the morning last night because I’m an idiot and this match-up literally came down to Tennessee’s final drive. If Henry ran it in, instead of getting stopped at the 5 or 6yd line (they then kicked a FG), Brian would have won. It definitely sucks to lose with the 3rd highest score of the week but you have to at least be happy your team performed…right? I would have bet my life savings on Derrick Henry over Melvin + 7 points and I would have been wrong. Justin got BAILED OUT by that Phillip Lindsay injury. Great performance by both teams here in Week 1.

Just Doulis. (0-1) – 84.10
The Tennessee Titans (1-0) – 123.16

Why Rambo Won: Davante Adams (34.60), Julio Jones (20.20), Robby Anderson? (22.50)
Why George Lost: Can’t Find Mike (3.20), D.J. Moore (7.40), Keenan Allen (5.70), No Kicker (0.00)

Well…I wasn’t wrong about Rambo’s team. I just didn’t count on Davante Adams and Julio to combine for 23 catches, 313 yds and 2 TDs. This is the type of production Rambo needs to compete this year. All he needs to do is stumble on a couple of RBs somehow and he’s in business (he currently has none). George had a rough week. Not only did his team stink it up but he lost Michael Thomas to a high ankle sprain (presumably for a couple of weeks) and to cap it off, that injury was at the end of the game so it’s not even the reason why he sucked. I have to say, I am a bit surprised George didn’t play a kicker. This league is notorious for coming down to tie-breaker points every year for that 6th playoff spot. It’s Week 1 so he can’t have quit on the season already, right? If George misses out on a playoff spot by 5 points it is 100% deserved.

WashingtonCovidskins (0-1) – 119.14
If he dies he dies (1-0) – 132.30

Why Jeff Won: Zeke (26.20), Ridley (29.40), Hock (14.10)
Why Jim Lost: Higbee (5.50), Ertz (9.30), A.J. Green (7.60)

Jeff delivered a garbage time beat-down of a lifetime to Jim courtesy of his Matty Ice/Calvin Ridley stack. Jeff had the pleasure of watching his score jump by intervals of 15 not once, but twice. If the Falcons regularly suck as badly as they did this week, Jeff is in for a treat this year. Jim’s team actually pretty much did fine, just got the low end of some variance. I’d be happy to see A.J. Green as involved as he was. It seems inevitable that Burrow and the Bengals get better as the year progresses.

Good Luck in Week 2!

Eric
